Boy Scouts of America Prepared for Life

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Mission Statement

Our mission at Troop 124 is to create a youth ministry for boys within the Reston, Oak Hill and Herndon communities, dedicated to instilling a desire to serve others consistent with Catholic teachings and the Boy Scouts' Oath while helping to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime.

Troop 124 has campouts every month. Past campouts have focused on the beauty of the mid-Atlantic region, including canoeing in the Shenandoah, hiking through the Appalachian Mountains, and camping on Civil War battlegrounds. We perform numerous service projects in the Reston, Oak Hill and Herndon communities. Each summer we attend a week-long summer camp in central Virginia or one of our neighboring states.

Merit Badges

Merit badges are awards earned by youth members of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), based on activities within an area of study by completing a list of periodically updated requirements. The purpose of the merit badge program is to allow Scouts to examine subjects to determine if they would like to further pursue them as a career or a vocation.
